The 1st Sunday of Advent

This week we celebrate the First Sunday of Advent.  We are now in Year A for our Liturgical Year.   Advent – a time to ponder and take time to renew our spiritual lives with time spent in prayer and reflection – yet, the time seems to speed by and call us to purchase gifts, prepare special meals, plan family events, decorate houses – inside and out – the list can go on and on.  I understand the frenzy.  How do we slow down and reflect on the beauty of the readings, the coming darkness each day that calls us to be home earlier and to feel like wrapping up in a blanket and resting?  Can we take time to pray, slow down, and “rest” with God?  I find it humorous that I am advising people to “slow down.”  I hear these words from parishioners, family, doctors, etc.                                     We are accustomed to making Lenten resolutions – this year try to make one or two Advent Resolutions that call us to grow closer to God – what can we do? – Take time and reflect…

As part of Advent – perhaps your Resolution could be to attend Sr. Diane Zerfas’ Presentation on “Mary, Mother of God” (a reflection on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception) on Sunday, December 8thThis year it will be held immediately after the 11:00 a.m. Mass at St. Mary Parish.  Nora Ryan and Ronda Schneider will prepare delicious treats along with a few door prizes.  Please bring your family and friends – both parishes are welcome!
