All Saints The 31st Sunday in Ordinary Time

This week we celebrate the Solemnity of All Saints. Matthew’s Gospel today is the beginning of the Sermon on the Mount.  Jesus teaches the disciples through the Beatitudes as means to discover true happiness and the path to holiness by acts of self-giving.  Who are the models of holiness that we can follow?  The Church provides a multitude of Saints so that we can follow their lives and exemplify their qualities in our own lives.  The “Blessings” of the Beatitudes allow us to acknowledge the sorrows of life and accept the joys that Jesus gives us we strive to be holy.

Holiness is not limited to Saints that have been canonized. Our lives have been touched by the holiness of grandparents, parents, spouses, children, friends, neighbors, or co-workers.  The common factor is a willingness to be selfless in their words and actions as they follow the example of Jesus.  Each one of us needs to strive for holiness.

I would encourage you to come to the “Remembering Service” on Monday at Noon at St. Mary Parish.  Come and remember the loved ones in our lives that have returned to God – with joy and peace!  Take time…
